China Refuses to Share Technologies with Russia, While the Kremlin Builds Its Own “Starlink” — Russia Info-Space Monitoring #35

China has refused to transfer rare-earth metal processing technologies to Russia, as became known during Vladimir Putin’s visit to Beijing. Despite Russia’s large reserves of these resources, China is unwilling to share its expertise with third countries, maintaining its monopoly in the field: about 90% of all global patents for rare-earth processing technologies belong to China.

Russia is developing its own satellite communication terminal based on the “Gonets” system, positioned as an analogue of Starlink. The “Gonets-D1M” satellite constellation consists of 12 “Gonets-M” satellites in low orbit, providing mobile and stationary communication channels. According to Roscosmos CEO Dmitry Bakanov, trials of a portable subscriber device for personal communications are already being prepared.

The Kalashnikov Concern has increased production volumes and is expanding its product line with civilian and dual-use items. The machine tool division has doubled, and contracts have been signed with 20 Russian and Belarusian companies. The enterprise is currently implementing 25 investment projects, with another eight in preparation.

Rostec’s United Aircraft Corporation has manufactured and delivered a new batch of Su-34 fighter-bombers to Russia’s Ministry of Defense. According to the corporation, the aircraft passed all ground and flight factory tests. The Su-34 can be used to strike ground, surface, and aerial targets, operate in contested air-defense environments, perform missions day and night, and conduct aerial reconnaissance.
